Signing Jacoby Brissett is an admission of suck

For all of you dopes that are on board with this, you’re dopes. Why? Because he’s comfortable? Yuck. Comfortable? He knows Van Pelt’s shitty system? He won’t upset the room when some rookie is forced into action because Jacoby went 6-15 162 yards 1 Td - 1 Int and 1/2 a stadium of sleepy grampy’s? He blows! He is a career back up. To bring him here as a “bridge guy” or a “mentor” is LOSER mentality. Or it’s delusional. It’s probably both. It’s not having the balls and foresight to make a play that will actually result in…. results.

If you’re bringing him here to be the “mentor” to your rookie you think you’re being smart. Get a veteran quarterback who understands his role. He can pass down wisdom to the young jedi. It does not work like that. You know who did that last year with Brissett? The Washington Commanders and Sam Howell. You want to model the Washington Commanders and Sam Howell? Before that it was the Indianapolis Colts and something called Sam Ellingher posing as an NFL quarterback. Do you know what those two scenarios had in common? They blow.

Jacoby Brissett is 18-30 in his career. EIGHTEEN and THIRTY. He has a completion % of 61. His best year came in Alex Van Pelt’s system with the Browns om 2022. they went 4-7. In 11 starts Brissett threw for 2,608 yards, 12 TDs and 6 Ints. He completed 64% of his passes and had an 88.9 rating. That was peak performance. Jacoby Brissett is like a bigger, blacker Brian Hoyer. He’s like oatmeal for dinner. Its sucks, but whatever.

You don’t get it. You’re not excited about Jacoby Brissett. You’re excited because you think he fits a mold. That mold is moderatly suck until your savior from the draft is NFL ready. Because that happens like clock work with every 1st round QB taken. (Please see Mac Jones was a victim of duplicitous dysfunction)

If you believe in the place holder mentality than you believe that the guy you draft will work. That’s fine to believe that your draft pick will work. You have to believe that in order to pick him. You should also understand that more often than not it doesn’t work. And because you understand that, you should not be placing your eggs in the Jacoby Oatmeal bucket as the fall back because it’s not good enough. The only way Brissett is good enough is if the rookie comes in and has winning contributions no later than week 8. Which I would say is a delusional and foll hearty way to project your starting quarterback position. Do you know how you should project and approach the position? Get someone with freaking talent.

You want to tell me Justin Fields is still in play for a trade, and Brissett is here for break glass emergency back up, AND you’re drafting a guy in the 1st round. Now we’re cooking. It’s the most important position in sports. You need to minimize your risk. Cast a wide net at as much talent as possible. These guys are football players. They aren’t Tik Tokers. Competition breeds winners and weeds out stiffs. You don’t wan the room to be comfortable with a old dog waiting to be Old Yeller’d. Give me an honest competition from guys with upside. Let the chips fall and move on from the loser.

I hope you Brissett/ Maye folks are ready for another season of siestas.
