Who’s in Charge of the Boston Red Sox?
You can look back over the past half-decade of Boston sports and point out a landslide of mistakes. But when it comes to personnel decisions, there are two positions in Boston that have been criminally neglected.
First, the Patriots and left tackle—a top-three most important position on the field—which they’ve paid little to no attention to and invested next to nothing in.
The other? First base for the Boston Red Sox.
Somebody—anybody—name the last marquee player who played first base regularly for the Sox. I’ll wait.
These clowns made us sit through the Bobby Dalbec era because they didn’t want to get in the way of Triston Casas when the fancy boy was finally ready to advance to the bigs. And now here we are. Looks like Casas might not even be able to hack it at the major league level—never mind being out for the rest of the season with a blown knee.
What kind of asshole blows out a knee playing baseball?
So here we go again: what gaggle of bums are they going to toss over at first base this time? How many grounders can Romy Gonzalez take before he learns how to handle a short hop in the dirt? How many nameless Toros’ can they call up from the minors, praying one of 'em hits above the Mendoza Line? How many misfit outfielders can they try to reposition and screw up their development?
Oh, and how many $300 million superstars will they refuse to ask to play the field—just to avoid hurting the delicate feelings of said $300 million fat superstar?
Are there any actual adults running the Boston Red Sox? Or is everyone over there just handing out teeny-weenies and yodels?
Somebody needs to throw on their big boy pants and make some damn changes to shake up the energy at Fenway. Otherwise, you’re staring down another trade deadline with the team floating at .500 while management tries to “split the baby” again.
We all know how that ends. Cora’s cryin’ in his soup, the teeny-weenies are gone, and the yodels are packed up and flown back to the Dominican on an IL stint for the rest of the year.
